MediaTek had officially launched its deca-core Helio X20 chip for mobile back in May, which features a tri-cluster CPU configuration that included two Cortex A72 clocked at 2.5GHz and eight Cortex A53 cores, of which four clocked at 2.0GHz and four at 1.4GHz. After its launch, the Helio X20 had caused a bit of a stir many questioning its performance, consumption of energy and even the theoretical multi-core use cases of MediaTek’s latest design choice. The ones who were not easily convinced also pondered if this is just a marketing trick by MediaTek.
Nevertheless, the X20 chip comes with a GPU from ARM’s latest high-end Mali-T880 generation. It can manage a single sensor up to 34MP or dual image sensors and supports Category 6 LTE data speeds. Elephone, as rumors suggests, will be make use of many of these high end features for the P9000. The X20 is said to be built on a 20nm manufacturing node, which means that it would be smaller and more effective than MediaTek’s 28nm designs in the past. Other rumored specs of the Elephone P9000 smartphone include a 5.5-inch 1080p display coupled with 4GB of RAM. It is expected to feature a 3,100mAh battery along with 32GB of internal storage with microSD card slot. It is also rumored to have a dual-SIM compatibility with 4G making it a competitive high-end design. Also, on the specs list is a 20.7MP front facing camera and 8MP rear camera. The P9000 is expected to come with a price tag of $500 at the time of release and is scheduled to launch in various regions on October 20.
